Ferroelectric, piezoelectric and pyroelectric materials are used in a wide range of electronic devices. The market bring in tens of billions of dollars a year worldwide. Applications include:
- piezoelectric devices (transducers, sensors, filters)
- microwave communications filters
- uncooled infra-red detectors and imagers
- displays and other optical devices
- memories
They are also used in the rapidly growing field of micro-electro-mechanical devices (MEMS) with emerging new technologies in biomedical engineering.
These devices are used in sectors from automotive engineering to consumer electronics. The UK takes a lead role in developing these applications and this conference provides a platform to showcase the UK's ferroelectric materials and devices research. They've enabled attendees to seek out new materials-related opportunities and share knowledge on the latest developments.
The meetings to date have attracted delegates from the UK, Europe and United States. The last meeting was in 2015 at the National Physical Laboratory. We are looking forward to inviting you to join us for the upcoming conference in Bath in May 2020.
