Go Abroad Bursary Scheme

The Go Abroad Bursary Scheme provides financial support for Widening Participation students to attend summer schools abroad.

What is the Go Abroad Bursary Scheme?

The scheme offers a bursary enabling students who may ordinarily have barriers to studying abroad to attend a summer school at a partner university internationally.

Summer Schools are short-term immersive packages that combine subject-specific tuition and social activities, and usually last between 2-4 weeks.

They are a great opportunity to gain specialist knowledge in a range of topics, grow confidence and experience a new culture without having to commit to a full semester or year abroad. Summer Schools increase international competence; the ability to confidently be able to communicate with people from other cultures. This is something that is highly valued by employers.

Students who are in receipt of the Bath Bursary or Gold Scholars may be eligible for the Go Abroad Bursary. This allows students a grant of between £600 -£2000 to put towards a Summer School experience. We are offering 16 bursaries to cover tuition, accommodation and travel

How do I know if I am eligible?

The Go Abroad Bursary Scheme is designed to make study abroad accessible for those students who would not normally be able to take part in a study abroad programme. For this reason there are a number of criteria listed below.

To be eligible you must:

  • be a UK citizen full time undergraduate in receipt of the Bath Bursary or Gold Scholarship
  • NOT already be registered upon a course with a study or placement abroad component
  • have completed your first year of study at the time of undertaking the short term mobility activity
  • NOT be in their final year at the time of applying
