GW4-CAT HP fellows will complete a PhD project focused on biomedical-related fields including epidemiology, lab sciences, bioinformatics and clinical phenotyping, in one of over 50 world-leading research groups, including population health, cardiovascular science, neuroscience, mental health, infection, immunity & repair, cancer and molecular cell biology. In addition, there is access to a wide range of core and specialist training, plus exceptional individualised clinical mentoring.

About the scheme
The GW4-CAT HP is a three-year PhD programme funded by the Wellcome Trust, and offers early career health professionals and veterinary graduates the chance to undertake interdisciplinary training at the Universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter.

- Tuition fees
- An appropriate consumables and animals (if required) budget
- An allowance for training and travel
- A clinical salary

This opportunity is aimed at exceptionally motivated, clinically qualified trainees at an early stage of their career, who can demonstrate the capability and drive to undertake research with a view to developing a long-term career as a clinical academic.
Applicants must be fully qualified medical doctors, vets, dentists or health and care professionals registered with the relevant professional body and holding a qualification allowing clinical practice in the UK or Republic of Ireland.
Applicants must also satisfy the minimum academic entry requirement for their chosen PhD programme at the University of Bath. This is usually a UK Honours degree or equivalent (with at least an Upper Second Class classification, where applicable) but some programmes may have other requirements. Applicants whose first language is not English must also meet our English language entry requirements.

Project proposals are not expected at the application stage. Competitive recruitment will be undertaken through submission of the following documents by the closing date:

For candidates who are successful in the initial stages of the recruitment process, interviews will be held in Bristol on 6 and 7 May 2025.
Note: it is not necessary to apply for a PhD programme at the University of Bath at this stage. Candidates who are successful in obtaining a GW4-CAP HP Fellowship will be invited to apply to the University of Bath at a later date.
