Our diverse and research active department is led by Dr Peter Postl
Our research activities cover all the mainstream fields of economics. At the same time, our departmental research activities are structured around five research groups and four specialist research themes:
- Macroeconomics and Finance
- Economic Theory
- Public and Environmental Economics
- Labour, Education and Health Economics
Our research has a widespread impact on society which is documented through numerous impact cases and we are contributing to various large-scale national and international funded research projects including TRU3D GLAMURS, Econadapt and Nudge-it. Our Innovation and Productivity, Social Determinants of Health, Governance of Institutions and Systems, and Sustainable living research themes bring together colleagues from different research groups to tackle the big societal and industrial challenges today.
Our research themes and groups regularly organise visits to Bath by excellent speakers and distinguished visitors, as the following recent events illustrate: European Society for Population Economics (ESPE) Annual Conference 2019; Innovation & Productivity Workshop 2018 and 2019, Governance of Institutions & Systems workshop 2019; Department Seminars 2018 and 2019; Money, Macro & Finance (MMF) Conference 2016; and many more
Our research aims to create significant impact on society and advance our understanding of a variety of key economic issues, such as pensions, the minimum wage, economic cycles, financial markets, sustainability, governance and political economy, and policies to tackle obesity.
The results of REF2014 confirm that the research carried out at the Department of Economics in Bath is of excellent quality.
