MRC GW4 BioMed Doctoral Training Partnership

Funding is available from the MRC GW4 BioMed Doctoral Training Partnership for new doctoral students in humanities, engineering and science.

Funding for doctoral students

If you are applying for doctoral study in humanities, engineering or science, you may be eligible for funding from the MRC GW4 BioMed Doctoral Training Partnership.


The MRC works to improve the health of people in the UK by supporting excellent science and training the very best scientists. The MRC GW4 Biomed DTP will be awarding full studentships for pre-defined research projects, aligned with the themes of Infection, Immunity and Repair; Neuroscience and Mental Health; and Population Health.

Studentship value

Funding lasts for up to three and a half years. This includes:

  • tuition fees
  • research and training support grant of between £2,000 and £5,000 per annum
  • maintenance stipend £15,609 per annum (2021/22 rate)

This award is open to all applicants (Home and International); however, in line with guidance from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the number of awards available to International students will be limited to 30% of the total.
