What you need to know and do during your first few weeks of your School of Management MSc course.

Tuesday 27 September to Friday 30 September 2022

Congratulations on receiving an offer to study on one of our MSc courses. We have a programme of events to welcome you to the School of Management and Bath. This programme will help you learn more about your course and to make friends. We look forward to meeting you. We will confirm details in September 2022.

Welcome events

Take part in Welcome Week events for all MSc students.

Welcome to the School

Starting Tuesday 27 September

All MSc students should attend this session. This welcome talk by the Dean of the School of Management and other key staff will look at expectations and cover key messages for the year ahead. We will provide details on which session to attend in September.

MSc course check in

At this session you will meet your classmates for the first time and check in to your MSc course.

You will need to scan a QR code to check in to your MSc course. You will need to do this before Monday 17 October 2022. We will confirm details of the QR code in September 2022.

You must QR code check in to officially check in for your MSc course.

Director of Studies course welcome

A session to meet your Director of Studies, your Student Experience Officer, MSc Team Programme Support and your new course mates.

Practice Track or Dissertation summer options?

A session comparing the two summer options available to those on selected MSc courses.

The week will include other interactive and live sessions including:

Opportunities to get involved during your course

Find out about the extracurricular activities and opportunities available to you throughout your MSc course.

There are lots of opportunities available to you during your MSc. Getting involved in extracurricular activities enhances your experiences, enriches your CV and helps you get the most out of your degree. Some activities may vary depending on availability and health and safety risk assessment.

Personal tutoring

Find out about our personal tutoring system.

Your Director of Studies is your Personal Tutor and your first point of contact for academic advice.

Your Student Experience Officer is available for welfare support and advice.

The MSc Office provide course support and can be contacted for anything to do with your MSc. You will meet them all during Welcome activities.

All members of the Personal Tutoring Team provide guidance and support your personal development, academic progress and welfare.

Your career

We want to get you ready for the working world. Find out about the different opportunities you'll have to prepare yourself for your career throughout your course.

Graduate recruiters often target Bath students. As part of your course you'll take part in lots of career activities – both timetabled and optional.

It's important to start thinking about your job search as soon as possible, as some graduate opportunities will have deadlines soon after you start your course.

The Big 4 Boot Camp 20 - 22 September (online)

The Big 4 professional companies (PwC, KPMG, EY and Deloitte) are some major graduate recruiters who sponsor work permits in the UK.

Graduate opportunities usually open in September and the Big 4 recruit on a rolling basis. Applying early in the semester can increase your chances of success. If you are considering a career in Finance, Consulting, Technology or HR you might be interested in our Big 4 Bootcamp. This three day online workshop will help prepare you for the application processes typically used by these recruiters.

Careers timeline

Semester one

Your timetabled careers workshops start in week 1. These sessions are practical and give tips on:

  • job search in the UK and internationally
  • CVs
  • cover letters
  • interviews
  • psychometric tests
  • assessment centres

Throughout these workshops we will discuss ways you can enhance and demonstrate your employability.

There will be many activities you can sign up for including:

  • Industry Insights, where our graduates return to give advice on working in different sectors
  • meetings with a careers advisor to discuss your career goals and applications
  • support to pass psychometric tests
  • mock interviews and assessment centres
  • company presentations and workshops
  • Careers Fair (week commencing 17 October)

Inter-semester break (30 January 2022 - 3 February 2023)

80 students will be selected to take part in our Future Business Challenge. During the week you will hear from guest speakers, companies and work in teams to analyse what makes a company resilient and sustainable.

Semester two (starts 6 February 2023)

Support with applications continues for roles in the UK and globally. In Semester two students on most courses will engage with companies. You’ll be able to hear how what you are learning in the classroom is put into practice in the world of work. We also run some optional, team consulting projects with start ups and local organisations.
