Semester One Mindfulness Courses

Two free Mindfulness courses, Introduction to Mindfulness and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, are running during Semester One.

Introduction to Mindfulness

This six week course will enable you to bring mindfulness-based approaches to all aspects of daily life. It has been developed to teach simple and powerful mindfulness practices to break the cycle of stress anxiety and mental exhaustion.

The course promotes taking control of your wellbeing and happiness in a practical and proven way by rediscovering an authentic enjoyment of your life. It is suitable for any student who wants to explore mindfulness and learn some useful techniques

The course consists of six weekly sessions plus an initial orientation session which will establish whether this is the right course for you at this moment in time.

Dates and times

The course takes place every Tuesday for six weeks from Tuesday 6 November 2018 to Tuesday 11 December 2018 from 3pm to 4.30pm.

There will also be an orientation session on Tuesday 30 October 3pm to 4.30pm.

Please note that as this is a progressive course full attendance is expected.

The Semester One course is now full. There will be a further course in Semester Two. If you would like to try a Mindfulness taster session, why not book on to our workshop held on Friday 12 October as part of Be Well Week?

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

This eight week course teaches practical skills that can help with physical and psychological health problems and the challenges of everyday life.

Using a combination of meditation, body awareness and teachings on stress to diminish the tendency of the mind to rule us through impulse and habits, you will learn to make choices that are more conscious and less reactive, becoming more understanding and responsive in your relationships with others and calmer.

The majority of people completing the programme report lasting physical and psychological benefits including:

  • an increased ability to relax
  • greater energy and enthusiasm for life
  • heightened self-confidence
  • an increased ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations

This is an in-depth, experiential, eight week course, taught by two experienced mindfulness teachers in which you will develop a daily mindfulness practice.

The course consists of eight weekly two-hour sessions, plus a five-hour ‘retreat’ in week six when participants have the opportunity to experience the benefits of a day of mindfulness practice.

The course is suitable for any students who have a basic understanding of mindfulness and would welcome a deeper exploration

Before participating on this course you will be invited to attend an initial orientation session which will establish whether this is the right course for you at this moment in time.

Dates and times

The course takes place every Tuesday from 23 October 2018 to 11 December 2018 from 6pm to 8pm plus a retreat day on Saturday 1 December (exact times tbc)

The orientation session is on Tuesday 16 October from 6pm to 7.30pm

Please note that as this is a progressive course full attendance is expected.
