Take part in a study concerning memory recall techniques in virtual environments
This study looks at how mnemonics (memory recall techniques) can be integrated with virtual environments. Sign up to take part.
What is the research about
Mnemonic devices, used to improve memory recall, has recently regained popularity amongst researchers working with virtual environments who seek to increase its effectiveness through integration with technology. Method of Loci (MOL) is a mnemonic whereby individuals imagine themselves navigating an environment and placing the items to remember in different locations.
Upon revisiting the environment, the individual should be able to remember the items more accurately than if they had memorized the items instead. Using the MOL technique while navigating a virtual environment has been shown to be more effective in memory recall than MOL by itself.
We are looking for participants who do not suffer from epilepsy.
What is involved
The study involves using a mnemonic device called Method of Loci which will be explained to you at the beginning of the study. You will have a chance to explore virtual environments on a desktop. At the end of the experiment, you will be given a short questionnaire to fill out.
The study should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Light refreshment is provided.
All data collected is completely anonymous. The study has received ethics approval.1
