Take part in our research examining attitudes in conversation

We are running a study to understand how attitudes in contemporary topics are talked about in general conversations. Take part and you can earn £12.

To take part in this study you must be:

  • 18 years or older
  • fluent in English
  • willing to be in a recorded (audio and video) group discussion

What’s involved in the study

The study will last between 60 to 75 minutes.

You will start by reading an information sheet and then you will be asked to complete a set of tests about your attitudes and your behavioural tendencies on a computer. This should take about 25 minutes.

Next, you will be asked to engage in a short task about abstract concepts, followed by a recorded small group discussion about a controversial topic like tuition fees.

The discussion will occur in 4-person groups, and so if we don’t succeed in getting enough people for a session, we may have to ask you to re-schedule. So please bear with us. The discussion itself will last approximately 15 minutes.

Finally, you take part in a short fun group activity.

You are free to stop at any time during the study, no reasons needed.

After the activities, we will discuss the project with you and offer an information sheet saying more about the research. You will be free to ask the researcher any questions at this point. You can also make an appointment to come back and talk to the researcher if taking part in the study has raised any questions for you.
