University Research Studentships

These studentships offer financial support for postgraduate research students. Check eligibility and how to apply for them.

The University Research Studentship Account (URSA) funds doctoral students across all Faculties/School in line with the University's strategic objectives.

Financial support

If you are chosen for this scheme, you will get:

  • tuition fees
  • training support fee, if applicable
  • Maintenance stipend £14,777 per annum (2018/19 rate), normally available to Home/EU students only


To apply, you must meet any English language requirements before funding can be considered if your first language is not English.

Ideally, you will have graduated (or be due to graduate) with an undergraduate Masters first class degree and/or MSc merit (or overseas equivalent).
