This unit may only be taken in consultation with the Director of Studies.
Aims: To allow study fellows the opportunity to develop a more in depth understanding of a key development issue of their own choice.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the unit students will have identified and examined in considerable depth a specialist development issue of their own choosing.
They should have a deeper, more coherent, and more analytical of the selected topic.

Ability to select, summarise and synthesis written information from multiple sources (T/F/A).

Content:
This unit is intended primarily for those with strong research career interests, or a clear vocational specialism who can thereby justify focusing on a particular issue, and who have demonstrated a capacity for self-guided work. The extended essay should be on a topic that is quite distinct from their intended dissertation topic or regional specialisation essay. This unit may be linked to a placement or internship within a particular development organisation.
