Aims: Students completing this unit will have extended their knowledge of a range of substantive issues concerned with the study of early childhood in different settings. Students will demonstrate an understanding of recent research in this area.
Learning Outcomes: After completing this unit the students will be able to: * Demonstrate knowledge of a range of substantive issues concerned with the study of early childhood in different settings. * Demonstrate understanding of recent research in the study of early childhood in different settings. Skills: 1. To engage in critical analysis of a wide range of texts and electronic information; 2. To synthesise information from a number of sources in order to gain a coherent understanding of research, policy and practice. 3. To communicate this information in assessment requirements. Content: This unit is intended to prepare students for undertaking a dissertation in the area of early childhood studies. There will be discussions of the development of research relating to early childhood in different settings. The starting point is an examination of policy, practice and research in the area of provision for children, which will be contextualised by using published research studies. |
