EE10170 Introduction to integrated engineering

Credits: 6
Level: Certificate
Semester: 2
Assessment: EX50PR50
Requisites:
Aims: To provide an understanding of how the design process is used in obtaining integrated engineering solutions, the steps taken and where detail is required.
Learning Outcomes:
After taking this module the student should be able to think through the design solution to a simple integrated engineering problem, using conceptual thinking in the process and understanding the use of CAD and similar computer based design aids.
Skills:
Lateral thinking; problem solving; independent and team working.
Content:
Introduction to the design process for integrated engineering systems and products: requirements capture, conceptual design, embodiment design and detail design. Familiarity with the Sensing-Perception-Actuation principle and hence an introduction into sensors, automated and intelligent control, actuators and the resulting inter-relationships. Introduction to CAD (Computer Aided Design), power electronics and controlled drives.
