Credits: 6
Level: Masters
Semester: 1
Assessment: EX100
Requisites:
Before taking this unit you must take EE20099
Aims: To provide students with an insight into, and an understanding of, power system protection applications and modern control techniques.
Learning Outcomes:
After completing this module, students should be able to: (a) divide a power system network into manageable units suitable for protection and determine which types of protection will be appropriate, and (b) define which control systems could be employed and explain how they would operate.
Skills:
Application of the information, techniques and methods discussed in the lectures.
Content:
The protection overlay, transducers, Fuses, Overcurrent protection, Differential protection, Distance protection, Digital protection and the Protection of Embedded Generation
The concepts of power system stability control and voltage control; basic modelling techniques for power system control; design of AVR (Automatic Voltage Controller); design of Power System Stabilisers (PSS).
