Aims & Learning Objectives:
Aims: To provide a detailed understanding, in terms of application and operating principles, of the main types of relay used for the protection of transmission systems.
Objectives: After successfully completing this unit students will be able to describe the requirements of a variety of protection schemes and to calculate relay settings for a number of typical distribution network applications.
Content:
An introduction to the concepts of protection; the protection overlay; non-unit protection; protection transducers; unit protection of feeder circuits; transformer protection; busbar protection; motor protection; protection of embedded generation, autoreclose scheme; and co-ordinated protection and control.
