Requisites:
This unit is not to be taken by students taking BSc Sociology and Human Resource Management, BSc Business Administration, BSc Accounting and Finance or BSc International Management and Modern Languages.
Aims: The course aims to give a broad overview of major features of human resource management. It examines issues from the contrasting perspectives of management and employees and explores some contemporary policy issues.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this unit, the student should be able to:
* Understand the development and context of HRM in the UK;
* Understand the main theoretical issues surrounding HRM;
* Understand the practical key elements of HR;
* Appreciate some contemporary issues in HRM practice.
Skills:
Understanding of theory and practice and critical debates (taught and assessed)
Case analysis (taught and facilitated)
Group work (facilitated).
Content:
Perspectives on managing human resources, human resource planning, recruitment and selection, reward management, performance management, learning and development, discipline and dismissal.
