Requisites:
Aims: The aim of this unit is to update pharmacists on the disease and patient monitoring factors that should be considered when providing pharmaceutical care for patients with conditions of the endocrine system.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the unit students will be able to:
1. Describe and analyse the role of the healthcare professional / pharmacist in prescribing and monitoring medication for patients with diseases of the endocrine system (knowledge and understanding).
2. Explain the disease and patient monitoring factors that are influenced in this therapeutic area (knowledge and understanding, professional practical skill).
3. Critically evaluate the evidence base and medicines management issues for treatment of diseases of the endocrine system (intellectual skill).
4. Assess the role of the pharmacist and practice the skill of providing current and critically appraised evidence to patients in order for them to make informed decisions about treatment options in this therapeutic area, and specifically in HRT (professional practical skill).
5. Reflect on their own practice in prescribing and medicines management issues for these patients and identify areas for continuous improvement (personal transferable skill).
