Requisites:
Only available for students on programmes in Sport & Exercise Science. Aims: To provide the student with an overview of the major physiological systems, with particular emphasis on how they are integrated and regulated.
Learning Outcomes:
After taking this unit, the student should be able to:
* demonstrate an understanding of the structure and function of the major physiological systems of the human body
* demonstrate knowledge of how the function of major organs and systems is integrated and regulated.

Content:
The animal cell, cell membranes, body fluid composition and compartments; Neurones - anatomy and physiology of the central and autonomic nervous systems; Blood, pH, respiration, metabolic rate, body temperature. The endocrine system; Gut motility; Muscle - physiology of skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle; Cardiovascular system, the kidney, regulation of blood pressure.
