Description: | Aims: The aim of this unit is to introduce students to the importance of educational psychology for sport and coaching. The unit aims to do this by: * Introducing them to key constructs and theoretical frameworks linked to learning and teaching. * Demonstrating how such theoretical frameworks have important practical implications in sport and coaching contexts. * Exposing them to current ideas and research surrounding the above frameworks in sport and coaching. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of the module students will be able to: * Understand and explain key theoretical frameworks and constructs in educational psychology. * Appreciate that such ideas have significance to learning and teaching in sport-related areas. * Outline the specific implications of such ideas for sport and coaching in general. Skills: * Comprehensive and scholarly written communication * Ability to select, summarise and synthesise written information from multiple sources * Ability to develop rigorous arguments through precise use of concepts and models * Ability to relate theory to practice * Ability to select and use appropriate ideas to produce a coherent response to a pre-set question * Ability to produce work to agreed specifications and deadlines * Ability to work independently. Content: The following topics will be covered: a) Metacognition b) Attribution theory c) Cognitive development d) Gifted and talented populations e) Anxiety and self-esteem f) Classroom Management. |
