To be able to apply basic principles and functions of the sports industry within relevant specialised areas for coaches.
To understand the key sports policies that frame sport in the UK.
To have critically engaged with the main principles of the sports industry and sports policy.

Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of this unit the student will:
* have gained an understanding of the range of knowledges underpinning sports policy.
* appreciate the range of roles that exist within the contemporary sports industry.
* appreciate the array of 'providers' within the contemporary sports industry.
* be able to explain and discuss the relevance of, and contestations between, public and private providers, national and international objectives, corporate sport and public policy.

* Develop and apply the skills needed for academic study and inquiry T/A
* Evaluate both research and evidence critically and assess a variety of information sources T/A
* Synthesise information from a number of sources in order to gain a coherent understand of theory and practice T/A

* Utilise problem solving skills in a variety of theoretical situations F

Content:
Students will study:
* Analysis of sports policy and major providers in the UK
* Exploitation, Influence and sports development: The UN Mandate on Sport for Development and Peace
* Specific Sports Strategy Documents and major sports policies
* Cross-Cutting Agendas and the role of sport in social policy delivery
* Understanding the Late Capitalist Sports Industry: Sponsorship, Media, Marketing, Commercialisation.
