To understand the role for psychology in supporting physical activity change within health interventions.
To understand the application of psychological strategies to behavioural change within the context of contemporary society.
To understand the methodological issues and applied challenges for health practitioners and researchers.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
* Demonstrate knowledge of theories of health behaviour change, and their efficacy.
* Demonstrate knowledge of methodological and measurement issues in applied psychological research.
* Critically evaluate theory-based psychological interventions designed for the adoption and maintenance of physical activity.
* Demonstrate the ability to identify opportunities for psychological intervention, and present a case in support of their inclusion in health promotion initiatives.
* Demonstrate knowledge of the wider context surrounding psychological interventions.

Critical analysis of the performance of psychological approaches to behaviour change and current methodological debates;
Practical techniques of behaviour change (e.g., group facilitation, motivational interviewing);
Contemporary issues in applying research to practice and tailoring interventions;
Ecological approach to behaviour change;
Future challenges for research and practice.
