To provide a wide and thorough introduction to higher group theory.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the course the students should have a good broad overview over group theory as an area of research as well as being able to state and apply some of the main theorems of classical group theory.

Content:
Topics will be chosen from the following: Review of elementary group theory. Permutation groups. The classical groups. Group actions. The Sylow theorems and the structure of finite groups. Nilpotent groups and solvable groups. Finite p-groups. Free groups and presentations of groups. Von Dyck's theorem. Tietse transformation. Cayley graphs and geometric group theory.
