To provide an introduction to the processes of organization and individual (career) development through a knowledge-based perspective.
To explore the role of training and development at an organizational and individual level.
To provide several frameworks for the links between Knowledge and Organizational Development.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this unit the student would be able to:
* Provide a framework for analysis and understanding of current thinking in organizational and career development;
* Understand the nature and contribution of knowledge, learning and development to organisational development and success;
* Appreciate the role and responsibilities of the organization and the individual in training and development;
* To understand the role of learning in career development;
* Differentiate between employee and management development;
* Make suggestions for creative and innovative approaches to adult learning.

Analysis of case material (taught)
Critical reflection on theory (taught)
Application of theoretical models (taught)
Conversations with practitioners (facilitated)
Design of a learning intervention (taught and facilitated).

Content:
The nature of Organization and Career Development; The role of knowledge, training and development in organisations at individual (career) and collective levels; The process of organisational learning; Theories and practice of learning; career development and succession-planning; managers as developers ; learning technologies ; the training and development cycle ; assessment methodologies ; evaluation techniques ; feedback mechanisms.
