Click here for further information Description: Aims:

* An objective analysis of entrepreneurship in theory, practice and policy.
* Investigating and appreciating the innovation processes involved in generating and accessing entrepreneurial ideas.

Learning Outcomes:

* Demonstrate comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the key components of entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial process, in particular be able to explain the obstacles and barriers to business formation and development.
* Demonstrate systematic knowledge of the entrepreneurship and innovation theories presented to analyse business venturing.
* Appreciate how to create, evaluate and develop commercial ideas and apply entrepreneurial concepts to the innovation process.
* Compare and assess the advantage and drawbacks of different types of policy approaches and describe the main types of support available to different types of SMEs and entrepreneurships.
* Identify and discuss the role and importance of new venture creation, innovation and related management in the economic development.

Skills:
Subject specific skills
* Skills required for managing a new venture, in particular practical and coordinating skills needed by mangers, including working in groups, managing time, organising and conducting meetings, presentation and other form of business communication and coordinating management functions and tasks.
* Identify the key successful factors in a specific entrepreneurial or innovation process.
* Demonstrate a good grasp of both key concepts and a capacity for clear analysis under pressure.
* Skills to work in diverse teams, different cultures, races and genders.

* Express core concepts and interpret case studies concisely and coherently.
* Develop Active learning and thinking skills and apply analytical skills to case studies.
* Identify innovation and entrepreneurial processes and their potential.
* Effectively evaluate and use the evidence base as part of a strategy formulation process.

* Deal with complex issues both systematically and creatively, make sound judgements in the absence of complete evidence, and communicate their conclusions clearly to profession and non-professional audiences;

Content:
The course will offer students both systematic understanding and practical insights into entrepreneurs and the firms they create and manage, along with exploration of the innovation processes involved in generating and accessing entrepreneurial ideas. It will potentially cover the following topics:

* Understanding and managing growth
* Entrepreneurial Finance
* Entrepreneurship and Innovation
* Creating competitive advantage through innovation - Emerging science and technology based industries
