This unit aims to support the development of advanced clinical practice through the development of consultation and communication skills. It also provides a framework for the development of an evidence-based, rigorous and/or cost effective practice enhancement in a particular area of clinical practice or service improvement which includes the utilisation of those skills.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit participants will be able to:
1. Critically evaluate the evidence base in their chosen area of professional / clinical practice (or one aspect of it) (intellectual skill, professional skill, key skill; taught, facilitated and assessed)
2. Demonstrate effective strategies for presenting complex information to others in the context of their chosen area of professional / clinical practice (professional, practical, key and intellectual skill; taught, facilitated and assessed)
3. Demonstrate enhanced clinical communication and consultation skills in their chosen area of professional practice, adopting relevant and appropriate techniques and approaches for that area (professional, practical skill; taught, facilitated and assessed).
4. Identify and contribute to the development of local and / or national policy or practice guidance (as appropriate) in their area of professional / clinical practice (professional, practical, key and intellectual skill; taught, facilitated and assessed)
5. Demonstrate effective role model behaviour by showing professional / clinical leadership in their area of practice (professional, practical skill; facilitated and assessed)
6. Critically discuss personal approaches to developing their area of professional / clinical practice (professional and key skills; facilitated)
7. Collaborate with a network (s) of peers and other health professionals to enhance and develop aspects of their area of professional / clinical practice (professional, key and intellectual skill; taught, facilitated and assessed).
