This is the last of two units that aim to provide students with an introduction to a range of concepts central to the development of people through the Life Course. Central to this aim, is to introduce students to the implications of these concepts for Social Work. Specifically the unit aims to:
* provide a Social Work framework for understanding life course and the common challenges facing individuals and families;
* introduce an appreciation of inter-agency and multidisciplinary roles through the Life Course;
* link Social Work roles and purposes in problem based learning exercises; and
* critically examine a range of social, individual and cultural factors that may impact at different stages of the Life Course.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the unit students will be expected to be able to:
* have an appreciation and emerging critique of the importance of psychological theory in social work knowledge;
* have an emerging awareness of different agencies and multidisciplinary roles in the Life Course;
* have an awareness of the sites of social work practice at the various stages of the life-cyle (ie: children and families; adolescent/youth; and adult care); and
* begin to apply social work knowledge to human social development using problem based learning exercises.

Skills:
After completing this course students should be able to:
* be able to engage in problem based learning exercises independently and within small groups;
* be able to identify social work roles and functions through problem based learning exercises; and
* show critical thinking in the application of Life Course concepts.
