Follow this link for further information on unit content Description: Aims:
To take further the understanding of the design process in Integrated Engineering, introducing the detail of requirements capture, the individual design stages and engineering measurement. Introduces the technical detail of sensors and actuators and their capabilities, the use of different control philosophies and related techniques. Includes visits to industry to show these systems in action and introduces Systems Engineering as a design concept.

Learning Outcomes:
After taking this module the student should be able to determine the required stages for a design in an integrated system and be familiar with the specification of sensors, control and actuators in the solution.

Skills:
Conceptual and lateral thinking; problem solving in detail. Measurement skills.

Content:
Development of the design phases introduced in EE10170 will include the formation of Requirement Specifications and Design Specifications and their relationship; the use of Strategic Design techniques and their use; introduction to engineering measurements and the use of sensors and actuators together with control techniques in the design of an integrated engineering system. The concept of Systems Engineering will be introduced and how the above techniques fit in the wider design aspects of integrated engineering.
