Description: | Aims: To provide a basic vocabulary that enables a discussion of environmental issues. To make students aware of the physical impingements upon the body. To introduce the principal variables in the design of the physical environment. To use calculations at a basic level sufficient to enable students to make informed decisions about the orientation of buildings, the choice of building envelope and basic construction in order to achieve a satisfactory internal environment. Learning Outcomes: On the successful completion of this unit, students will be able to assess an external climate and explain the consequences for the design of buildings. They will be able to demonstrate how changes to the building design and construction will affect the environmental conditions within a building. Skills: Appropriate analytical skills, interpreting diagrammatic information.
