Description: | Aims: The Sir Basil Spence project for Civil Engineers. To give students experience in developing a complex scheme working in teams. Learning Outcomes: At the end of the unit, the successful student will have demonstrated an ability to undertake complex multidisciplinary design work. They will also have demonstrated verbal and written professional communication skills with their design team, and with potential clients. Skills: Intellectual skills * To apply theoretical knowledge to complex multidisciplinary designs - assessed Professional/Practical skills * Analytical and design skills related to the material covered - assessed Transferable/key skills * To communicate ideas verbally and in writing - facilitated and assessed. Content: A substantial multidisciplinary design project with teams of civil engineers, civil and architectural engineers and architects. Civil engineers will concentrate on the sustainable interaction between the structure, foundations architecture and construction of a building. The project will be tutored both by academic staff and industrial visiting tutors. |
