The intention of this unit is to encourage students to further apply the theoretical and contextual knowledge gained through engagement with the programme and relate this knowledge to contemporary concerns: This will
* enable students to understand key social problems and issues related to sport, health, physical activity, the body and society.
* develop the principles of learner-centered learning (LCL) among students
* enable knowledge developed through the degree to be applied to key concerns of the conjunctural moment
* ensure a strong relationship between degree based knowledge and future career pathways

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this unit students should demonstrate:
* a critical understanding of theoretical and contextual aspects of key issues in the relationships between sport, the body and society
* an understanding of how social problems related to sport, health, physical activity, the body are shaped by various social forces, especially the media
* a critical understanding of social and civic responsibility
* a critical understanding of cultural diversity
* an enhanced understanding of research on social issues and social justice in sport, health, physical activity, and the body
* an ability to apply a Physical Cultural Studies approach to understanding contemporary issues in Sport, Physical Activity and Movement

Skills:
On completion of the unit, students will have developed:
* the ability to collect, analyse and organise information and ideas and to convey those ideas clearly and fluently, in both written and spoken forms. T/F

Content:
The lecture component will introduce students to basic concepts related to key social issues in sport, health, physical activity, and the body. A series of key social problems in sport, culture, and, coaching will be formulated from co-participatory generative discussion. The specific topics will be partly student generated through the identification of current contemporary problems and issues in sport, the body and society. However, these will be more broadly located within contemporary issues related to:
* Political shaping of sports events
* Media: Mass Media, Citizen Activism, Cyberculture
* The 'future' of humans in sport and physical activity
* Inclusion and Equity
* Physical Cultural Developments and Innovations
* Critical professional practice
In small groups, students will explore a specific social problem through in-depth investigation and workshop environments and presentations will be used for formative feedback.
