To design and complete an independent critical social science oriented dissertation project in sport & physical activity.

Learning Outcomes:
In completing this unit, students will have:
* Developed an appropriate 'Introduction' section comprising a definitive problem statement, justification, and, rationale for the study;
* Placed their proposed research within the broader sport context;
* Sought out, and written, a section that locates their project amongst previous scholarship;
* Developed a section that justifies, outlines and discusses the planned methodological approach;
* Undertake data collection;
* Analyse and interpret results;
* Complete the writing of a cohesive research project through completion of the results, discussion and conclusion sections of their individual research project.

Content:
The unit is an independent research unit. Emphasis will be placed upon the development of an independent research project. Support will be provided throughout the semester by the unit leader and through facilitation of a network of assigned tutors. Electronic support in the form of Moodle discussions, forums, handout postings, and reading support materials. Students will be required to discuss and agree an overall project design with their respective tutors. In Semester 2 a series of 'Dissertation Surgeries' will be offered to provide additional support.
