Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
To understand the structure, objectives and policy of the European Union and regional economic integration in Europe, and the EU's legal implications for business.

Learning Outcomes:
Students taking this course unit will achieve a broad basic understanding of the structure, development, remit and main economic policies of the European Union, as well as a practical understanding of the main legal issues that the EU presents for companies.

Skills:
Research and analytical skills (facilitated and assessed); ability to construct an argument (facilitated, taught and assessed); critical thought (facilitated and assessed); introductory professional legal awareness relevant to management (facilitated, taught and assessed; ability to interface with complex web resources (facilitated); understanding of regional economic integration theory (taught and assessed).

Content:
The content of this unit will cover: European integration theory, history and development; the EU treaty base; EU institutions and decision-making; trade, competition and agricultural policies; the single European market and the single currency; EU regional policy and the structural funds; enlargement of the Union. Legal topics covered will include: EU legal structure; business contracts; free movement of goods and persons; impact of EU legislation on contracts.
