Learning Outcomes:
After successfully completing this unit students should be able to:
* Acquire and critically review technical information on a chemical engineering subject.
* Produce a working programme for the project and carry out their research according to this programme.
* Critically discuss the results generated during the project, evaluate these results in the context of the literature data available.
* Summarise the main project results and suggest directions for further work on the subject.
* Produce a professional report and poster on their project.

Acquisition and critical review of technical information on a subject; laboratory practice and data analysis, advanced experimental and/or computational skills; skills in tackling unresolved scientific and/or engineering problems, report writing; presentation skills. Facilitated/taught and assessed.

The second research project will be in a different topic and discipline from Research Project 1, to enable better appreciation of interdisciplinary aspects of research in sustainable chemical technologies. Research project 2 could be close to the topic of PhD or at least in the same research group. Selection of topics for Research Project 2 will be done at the start of Semester 2. It is compulsory to have a different supervisor for Project 2 to that of Project 1. To complete the work on the project, students will need to produce and submit a detailed report.
