This will involve a guided self-analysis of needs followed by active attendance at a variety of training activities, in order to meet the needs identified in the analysis. This will lead to enhanced performance on degree programmes. Learning Outcomes: Students will develop the following: * The ability to reflect on their personal academic skills proficiency * The ability to manage their study to address any perceived shortcomings * Their competence in a self-defined set of academic proficiencies * Their ability to reflect upon their learning process, thus enhancing their ability to engage in self-directed learning Skills: The student will develop the following skills * The ability to identify academic skills development needs * The ability to plan a structured, self-defined course of study * The ability to follow through on such a plan * The ability to document work and progress * The ability to reflect clearly on progress and, and record this reflection. Content: The unit aims to develop the skills that the students identify through their own self-audit of their skills. They will then plan a schedule to enhance these. Students will then devise a plan of activities, with reference to guidance in the unit handbook, to be agreed by an ASC tutor. The tutor and student will communicate either through electronic means or face to face. 2. The students will take part in the agreed training activities. These may be delivered by the ASC, or other Professional Services such as the SU, MASH, Careers and Student Services. Training activities may include courses, workshops, tutorials or less conventional training activities such as regular voluntary work undertaken to improve oral fluency. 3. The students will write a reflection of their learning. |
