Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
1. The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to the study of organisations by using a macro perspective.
2. The course aims to develop a capacity for the critical analysis of organisational design, organisational performance and organisational change. The goal is to indicate students the ways that might help us to understand how organisations function and what different theories and concepts might imply for organisations during their life span.

Learning Outcomes:
After taking this unit, students will have a better understanding of the term 'organisation'. While the students will come with a basic knowledge of this term, this course aims to study the contingencies - such as structure, strategy, size, external environment- and events that impact organisations during their life span such as growth, downsizing, forming alliances etc. We will also focus on how organisational design and structure might play a role in the life span of an organisation when an organisation faces the above-mentioned issues and factors such as change, decline etc. Lastly, how these issues and factors impact organisational outcomes such as performance and effectiveness will be discussed.

* facility to apply subject-specific knowledge into a range of organisational situations (TFA);
* awareness of current issues and frameworks in organisational design (FA);
* understanding of theoretical concepts and frameworks that enables meaningfully and critically to link theory and practice (TFA);

Practical skills:
* deal with relevant issues and make sound judgements in the absence of complete information, and to communicate conclusions clearly and competently (FA);
* work effectively within cross-cultural groups (F);
* communicate and manage effectively (TF)
Transferable skills:
* ability to develop a holistic perspective on organisational design issues (TFA);
* ability to develop an appreciation the tensions associated with designing organisations (TFA);
* appreciation of the human resources and competences required for successful organisational (TA);
* communicating, including presenting and promoting themselves and their ideas; preparing and production of effective management analysis (F);
