Further information on descriptions Description: This unit runs during the summer vacation period between Years 2 & 3 of the MPharmacy programme.
* Gain an understanding of the professional qualities necessary to be a community pharmacist.
* Reflect on performance and identify learning opportunities.
* Communicate effectively to other healthcare professionals and patients.

After completing this unit, students should KNOW/have experience of:
* The key members of the pharmacy team and demonstrate an ability to work as part of the team. Know how the pharmacy team fits into the larger primary care multidisciplinary team. (10.1h)
* The processes involved in managing errors in the community pharmacy and the other key aspects of clinical governance (10.1d)
* Enhanced service provision
* Considering the clinical appropriateness of prescribed medicines (10.2.2e)
* Basic procurement of medicines and disposal of patient returned medicine (10.2.3f,h)
After completing this unit, students should be able to SHOW HOW to:
* Give appropriate advice on minor ailments, promoting self care and providing answers to requests for information (10.1.2a,h)
* Evaluate prescriptions for legal validity (10.2.2d)
* Communicate effectively with patients regarding prescribed and OTC medicines (10.2.2g)
* Supply medicines consistently within legal and best practice guidelines in the community pharmacy (10.2.2j)
After completing this unit, students should have DONE the following:
* Demonstrate a consistently professional behaviour (10.2.5a)
* Reflected on their experiences in order to identify key learning points and develop a future development plan relating to knowledge and skills underpinning their practice. (10.2.5b,c,d)
