Requisites:
Description:	Aims: This unit enables students to develop an understanding of an area of interest through a period of independent study. This will be based around a body of not less than 10 academic articles agreed with two members of faculty who will convene and moderate the resulting assessment. Students will be expected to identify key themes within the reading list, supported by reading beyond this reading list, and to produce a meaningful analysis and/or synthesis of this body of work. Learning Outcomes: By the end of this unit, students will have: * Recognized key themes in various pieces of academic research. * Explained the arguments underlying the key pieces of work within the chosen area of study. * Constructed a coherent synthesis of the information in the selected body of work. * Students will make a case for a particular piece of new research that appears promising in the light of the student's synthesis of the body of work. Skills: Written communication (F/A). Critical thinking (F/A). Ability to synthesise multidisciplinary perspectives on the same problem (F/A). Ability to formulate a research question (F/A). Ability to produce work to agreed specifications and deadlines (F/A). Ability to work independently, without close supervision of guidance (F/A). Content: This unit requires regular meetings with supervising faculty to discuss progress.
