Content:
Organisations are persistently faced with changing internal and external contextual issues. Changes can thereby be both rapid and profound and often involve interactions between various processes and forces including, but not limited to, the societal, political, economic, financial, and technological contexts in which organisations operate. This course is designed to edify the application of critical thinking skills in evaluating selected contemporary and emerging issues so that the students can use informed judgment in formation of appropriate business responses.
In line with the contemporary and emerging focus of the course, topics covered may vary from year to year but will focus on a set of issues of current and emerging relevance to organisations. The module will include explorations of concepts that assist analysis of these contemporary and emerging issues. These may include but will not be limited to ethics/corporate social responsibility, politics, technologies, identities and globalization. The issues explored will be those that appear in news and current affairs during the course of the module. Students will be encouraged to identify for discussion issues emerging in the media from a range of countries. Discussion topics will typically focus on how these issues may or may not require changes in business environments and the new forms of business and management practices that may be required.
