Description: | Aims: The aim of this unit is to provide students with: * A solid grounding in the methods used by neuropsychologists to assess patients and to use these findings to inform the understanding of normal brain function. * The opportunity to develop critical and analytical skills in dealing with their own and others' theoretical ideas. * The opportunity to develop and explore skills and confidence in using relevant bibliographic databases and other IT resources (e.g. MEDLINE, PSYCHINFO, etc.) for the access and retrieval of psychological, biological and medical literature. * The ability to apply neuropsychology knowledge to a variety of problems. Learning Outcomes: After successfully competing this unit, students should be able to: * Critically evaluate how Cognitive Neuropsychology informs normal brain function. * Develop a critical analysis of theoretical positions in Neuropsychology * Critically understand the role of research methods in Neuropsychology * Clearly and usefully disseminate information about Cognitive Neuropsychology to a variety of audiences Skills: * Basic skills in assessing and diagnosing patients with suspected neuropsychological problems, and the ability to relate these to associated theoretical and research developments - T/F * Comprehensive and scholarly written communication (e.g. essays) - T/A * Ability to select, critically evaluate and summarise information from multiple sources - F/A * Ability to develop rigorous arguments through precise use of concepts and models - F/A * Ability to apply theory into practice - T/F/A * Ability to select and use appropriate ideas to produce a coherent response to a pre-set question - T/F/A * Ability to produce work to agreed specifications and deadlines - A * Ability to work independently, without close supervision of guidance - F Content: Neuroanatomy, History of neuropsychology, Methods of neuropsychological enquiry, Disorders of vision and attention, Disorders of language, Disorders of memory, Disorders of executive function, Neurorehabilitation. | Before taking this module you are advised to ( take PS20106 AND take PS20108 ) OR take PS20167 |
