Description: | Aims: To extend knowledge, heighten awareness, and develop an understanding of a range of contemporary social psychology research topics and issues. Learning Outcomes: On completion of this unit, students should be able to: * Critically evaluate current research in social psychology. * Critically appraise the research methods and techniques employed in contemporary social psychology research. Skills: Can demonstrate originality in the application of knowledge, together with a practical understanding of how established techniques of research and enquiry are used to create and interpret knowledge in the psychology (T/F A) Can evaluate critically current research and advanced scholarship in Psychology. (T/F A) Can evaluate methodologies and develop critiques of them and, where appropriate, to propose new hypotheses. (T/F A) Can communicate ideas and research findings both effectively and fluently by written, oral and visual means. (T/F A) Content: Seminar presentations in selected research based topics given by departmental and visiting research staff. These presentations will address contemporary issues in advanced social psychology which could encompass the following areas of work: identity and discourse in social and cultural contexts, investigating beliefs, practices, representations and decision-making in everyday situations. |
