To ensure students meet the HCPC Standards of Proficiency and the College of Social Work's Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) at qualifying level.
Students will build upon direct or indirect knowledge of social care organisations to understand the connections between, and the impact of policy, organisation, governance, learning, values and ethics, the role of consumers and public involvement, on practice and service delivery. They will learn what effect organisation has on the development of social care practice and service delivery and how different organisations inter-relate to provide the full range of social care services. They will learn to address the place of ethics in social work theory and practice whilst working within social care organisations.

Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to:
1. Think critically about the complex, changing, social, economic, political and cultural contexts in which social care practice is located PCF 8.1;
2. Understand and think critically about organisational processes; PCF6.3
3. Integrate knowledge about the relationship between agency policies, structure, legal requirements and professional boundaries in shaping the nature of services provided in inter-disciplinary contexts and the issues associated with working across professional boundaries and within different disciplinary groups PCF 8;.2 ; 8.3; 8.5; 8.6
4. Understand the factors and processes that facilitate effective multi-disciplinary, inter-professional and inter-agency collaboration and partnership PCF 8.7;
5. Understand organisational and professional learning, including the use of supervision for accountability, professional reflection and development; PCF 1.3
6. Understand the governance and regulatory framework of social care and the requirements of the professional regulator PCF 1.1;
7. Identify concerns about practice and procedures and, with support begin to find appropriate means of challenge PCF 1.11;
8. Explore issues of risk assessment and risk management PCF 7.4; 7.12;
9. Understand the role of evidence based practice and the influence of public involvement PCF 6.6;
10. Think critically about performance management and measurement;
11. Understand and apply the profession's ethical principles and legislation, taking account of these in reaching decisions PCF 2.1
12. Understand, identify and apply in practice the principles of social justice, inclusion and equality PCF 4.1

Skills:
Students will develop the skills to:
1. Critically and analytically understand social work within social care organisations, demonstrating understanding that social work operates within, and responds to, changing economic, social, political and organisational contexts; (taught and assessed) PCF 8.1
2. Be able to work within an organisation's remit and contribute to its evaluation and development; (taught, facilitated and assessed) PCF 8.4
3. Critically analyse human, organisational and structural impediments to change; (taught and assessed)
4. Explore and critically engage with some of the ethical dilemmas, confusions and potentially conflicting and competing values experienced in everyday social work practice; (taught and assessed) PCF 2.3
5. Apply sociological knowledge and understanding of ethics to the analysis of complex practice issues; (taught and assessed)
6. Recognise and, with support, manage the impact of own values on professional practice; (taught and facilitated) PCF 2.2
7. Understand the conceptual links between codes defining ethical practice, the regulation of professional conduct and the management of potential conflicts generated by the codes held by different professional groups; (taught, facilitated and assessed)
8. Act, with others, to increase social justice by recognising personal and organisational discrimination and oppression and, with guidance, make use of a range of approaches to challenge them;; (taught and assessed) PCF 3.2
9. Be able to demonstrate respectful partnership work with service users and carers, eliciting and respecting their needs and views, and promoting their participation in decision-making wherever possible; (taught and facilitated) PCF 2.4
