| Aims: Exchange: An opportunity to gain the experience of studying and living in a different country at an approved partner institution. To enable students to study economics/economics and politics in another context with application to different institutional structures, political and policy environment. Students should also have the opportunity of selecting subjects not available at the University of Bath. Placement: "To enable students to study economics and/or politics..."; To provide practical experience in a professional environment, either in an organisation abroad or in the UK, applying knowledge and skills gained within the undergraduate degree programme. To develop personal skills typically including communication skills (written and oral), planning and time management, problem solving, analytical and numerical, accuracy and attention to detail, the use of initiative, decision making skills, flexibility and adaptability, the critical appraisal of new information, and team-working skills. To enable an understanding to be gained of the general structure of an organisation and of expected professional standards. To enable the contribution of the individual to the aims and objectives of the organisation. Learning Outcomes: Exchange: By the end of the exchange period the student should be able to: * Achieve learning outcomes specified in the course units/modules taken in the partner institution; * Have a better understanding of how the use of economic/economic and/political concepts, analysis and applications vary across countries and regions. Placement 1. To demonstrate ability to integrate analysis and skills from academic studies with practical experience in the company environment. 2. To be able to work accurately and consistently to identify and achieve personal and company objectives. 3. To learn how the individual integrates into and interacts with an organisation for the mutual benefit of the individual and organisation. 4. To demonstrate the ability to manage conflicting resource and time demands through prioritisation and allocation. 5. To be able to identify appropriate opportunities to apply knowledge, skills and understanding in new contexts to evaluate solutions and solve problems. 6. To build a range of group working skills, typically including effective one-to-one and group communication, presentations and interaction, and effective personal contribution to team goals. 7. Familiarity with industry-specific acronyms, business terminology and writing-style. 8. To gain an opportunity to investigate and assess potential career options prior to graduation. Skills: Exchange: Intellectual skills Development of understanding of economics/economics and politics through study of course units/modules taken at the partner institution. Placement: A range of skills are developed during the placement period, listed above, along with practical competencies relating to living and working outside the university environment. Content: The student will follow an approved programme of units at a partner academic institution, which converts to an equivalence of 30 credits at University of Bath. Total minimum one semester on exchange and five months (22 weeks) on work placement, adhering to the Code of Practice provided by the Placements Office. Students in all partner universities will be taught in English. A student must satisfy the requirements of the host institution in order to gain the required credits and be deemed to have passed the semester of study. Pre-placement preparation. |
