Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
1. To develop an in depth understanding of a specific aspect of policy or practice in the field of climate change policy and practice initiatives.
2. To develop analysis of this specific aspect through the perspective of a social science discipline.
3. To develop primary research skills including understanding of ethics, skills in study design, interviewing and data analysis.
4. To develop transferable skills in team working.
5. To develop transferable skills in presentation, writing and communication.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Analyse an issue or initiative in the policy or practice of climate change using a social scientific approach.
2. Design and implement a small-scale research study.
3. Understand the practical use of ethics in primary research.
4. Analyse primary data appropriately and draw conclusions.
5. Present and communicate findings of research in written and verbal forms.
6. Understand the dynamics of team working.

Content:
Sessions on this unit will be focussed on facilitating the practical design, data collection, analysis and writing up of group research projects in response to the research topics proposed by partner organisations. Alternatively projects will be developed that they can undertake independently. They will operate in a workshop format along with project supervision from the unit convenor. Input will be focussed on facilitating the practical dimensions of carrying out the research such as:
* Team working
* Study design
* Data collection plans
* Data analysis
* Ethics procedures
* Presentation skills.
