Description: Aims:
To provide experience of the application of Biological Science and to promote understanding of the principles and practices of working in a professional environment.

Learning Outcomes:
After taking this course the student should be able to:
* To take individual responsibility for a piece of work within an agreed programme;
* To organise a personal work schedule, including setting of targets and objectives;
* To carry out work accurately and to appropriate specifications;
* To undertake work that demonstrates analysis, interpretation and reporting of information.
* To produce a scientific report on the personal work programme undertaken.

Content:
The placement period normally consists of 12 months, undertaken in an establishment, in the UK or abroad. The establishments include government-funded research institutes, commercial research establishments, public health laboratories, agricultural, food science and educational establishments. The placements involve research, laboratory and/or field experimentation, education and/or administrative activities.
