Description: Aims:
The aim of this unit is to convey the importance and societal drive for technology based upon organic molecules, both embedded technology and futuristic technology. The unit will be neither synthesis-centred nor mathematical-centred.

Learning Outcomes:
On completing this unit, students should be able to:
* demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the desirable structural features of organic molecules in technological materials and devices.
* demonstrate an understanding of the structure and bonding of extended organic π-systems.
* discuss the composite components found in organic functional materials devices.
* demonstrate a qualitative appreciation of the comparative performance of materials within a specific material/device family.
* demonstrate an awareness of trends in future organic material development.

Skills:
Problem solving (T, F, A), Independent working (F).

Content:
Content will be centred upon 1-2 lectures per technological area and will examine the demand for, the structural features, application of device technology and construction of devices. : Organic Photovoltaics, Organic Light Emitting Diodes, Organic Field Effect Transistors, Liquid Crystals, Organic Ferroelectrics, Organic Lasers, Organic Spintronics and Memristors
