Description: Aims:
To explore the theoretical underpinning of different strength training paradigms and the biological mechanisms associated with strength and power adaptations.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit students will be able to:
* Demonstrate a critical understanding of the biochemical, genetic and mechanical factors associated with strength and power development.
* Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the complex structural adaptions which occur under different strength training regimes in relation to muscle, tendon, bone and neural systems.
* Use the research evidence to systematically and creatively evaluate the efficacy of selected specific strength and power training regimes for specific populations.
* Gain an appreciation and use procedures for testing strength / power metrics and for monitoring adaptations.
* Apply knowledge of the proposed adaptations to different strength training regimes in the design of individualised training programmes.
