Description: This course will introduce a range of hypothesis testing techniques and introduce the topic of experimental design. The course will concentrate on applications in the management area with an emphasis on choosing appropriate methods.
Aims:
To teach the methods of analysis appropriate to common types of data. To introduce the ideas of experimental design.

Learning Outcomes:
Students should be able to select and perform appropriate hypothesis tests. They should understand the principles involved in experimental design and be able to apply the methods of analysis of variance. They should be able to use Excel to perform analyses.

Skills:
Statistical skills (taught and assessed).

Content:
Sampling distributions. One and two sample tests for means and proportions including the use of Student's t. Simple non-parametric tests and chi-squared tests. Testing Binomial proportions. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA): comparisons of group means. Two-way ANOVA: Two-way classification model, main effects and interactions. Experimental Design: Randomisation, blocking, factorial designs.
