Description: Aims:
This unit aims to stimulate systematic and independent thought in solving problems relating to strategy and planning, and in making evidence-informed decisions as university managers.

Learning Outcomes:

* Originality in the application of strategic planning and risk management tools to improving organisational functions in universities
* Originality in the application of resource mobilisation and financial management tools to improving organisational functions in universities

Skills:
Students who successfully complete this unit should develop:
* The ability to operate effectively both independently as well as within teams to formulate strategic proposals for higher education functions and institutions.
* The ability to operate effectively both independently as well as within teams to interpret financial data and formulate plans for improving higher education functions and institutions.
All skills are initially taught/delivered online, and then facilitated through further discussion, problem-based learning and individual work. All skills should also be evident in the final assessed work.

Content:
Typical content covered in the unit includes:
* Problem-based learning: strategy and risk-related scenarios from different professional services (e.g. international office, academic administration, student services) for participants to work on collaboratively in small groups and discuss solutions with the whole cohort
