Description: Aims:
This unit aims to show how informed management decision making can be supported by the collection and analysis of relevant data.

Learning Outcomes:
Successful completion of this unit will allow students to utilise insights into decision-making problems, gained by applying appropriate methods to collect and analyse data. A key feature of the unit will be the development of critical skills which will allow students to assess the strength and limitations of quantitative analyses presented to them.
This unit will enable students to:
* identify, source, reflect upon and engage critically with appropriate and representative literature in the field of business management.
* apply knowledge to find potential solutions to a range of complex business problems
* apply responsible business practices and ethical principles to inform decision-making at the executive/ boardroom level.

Skills:
Knowledge and understanding
* An appreciation of the fundamental frameworks necessary to understand internal and external organisational contexts as well as theoretical foundations underpinning the links between business and society;
* An awareness of the principles of finance and accounting, where these activities fit into a business and how they can contribute to the attainment of the company's financial and business strategies and objectives at the executive/ boardroom level;
* Awareness of the uses and limitations of quantitative methods for providing information and evaluating options in an uncertain business environment;
* An understanding of research and how to integrate the knowledge of a variety of functional and theoretical areas through application to organisational problems.
Skills
* the ability to critically analyse specific situations using appropriate theoretical models, allied to pragmatic, well-reasoned judgements;
* the facility to apply and integrate subject-specific knowledge, informed by academic research, into a range of complex situations;
* the ability to source and analyse data and information, to evaluate its relevance and validity, and to synthesise it in the context of topical business problems;
* apply practical decision-making methods and tools at both tactical and strategic levels at the executive/ boardroom level.
