Aims: The aim of this unit is to provide students the opportunity to learn and apply cutting-edge molecular biological techniques, such as CRISPR-cas9 / homologous recombination, to address novel research questions.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this unit you will be able to:
* Apply your knowledge in order to evaluate and critique current problems, methodologies and/or new insights in your field
* Define a research question relevant to your field
* Employ relevant technical skills to create and interpret a biological dataset and address your research question
* Exercise time and resource management, analytical, interpretative and literature-accessing skills during the undertaking and presentation of your project
* Construct scientific writing at the level of a primary research paper
* Use professional judgement to employ initiative and autonomy or draw on and develop teamwork skills as appropriate to the situation.

Content: A laboratory-based research unit which provides the foundation for conducting molecular bioscience research using a range of molecular biological techniques (such as including CRISPR, homologous recombination, nucleic acid manipulation, cloning, bacterial and fungal transformation).
